Water Well #1 Completed in Nigeria

625 New Births from Mission Trip 1

July 18, 2001

The first team of Volunteers for RNM, Inc. just back from Nigeria report great  exploits and accomplishments.  (See Photos below).

A Water Well was completed at Ogberuru, Imo State of Nigeria on July 2. It was totally hand dug to 120 feet and produces about 20 gallons per minute clean sanitary drinking water for the nearby villagers.

It is the first of 10 planned water wells for this community of some 12,000 dwellers with a large population of children and distant water sources that are largely unsanitary.  (Subsequent wells will be drilled with a mud-rotary rig using the well logging data from this primary well).

Leading the team was the President of RNM, Inc. Dr. A. Sunny Okorie, and his wife, Mrs. Ogechi Florence Ochi-Okorie (League City, Texas). Other team members were Meriel "Ijeoma" Bernhard (Portland Oregon), Clarence "Ikechukwu" Joseph (Houston Texas), Grace U. Ike (Houston, Texas), and Dr. Samson Otuwa (Friendswood, Texas).

Other highlights of this mission effort include the leading of some 625 souls to Christ through salvation experiences, and the delivery  of some of the donated computers to the Ogberuru Secondary School. The donations were made by All Nations Church in League City through RNM, Inc. in partnership with the Ogberuru Development Association.

Also, in a related development with the Anglican Bishop of Owerri, Rev. Dr. Cyril Okorocha, the team was asked to plan on assisting with their vocational training center program beginning in 2002 during our next Mission trip. The skills training program will center around helping young women migrating from rural communities into the urban centers to acquire computer operations skills.

The team also made contacts with key players for rural medical / health care outreaches & other programs that would help empower the natives while alleviating ill-health and poverty levels.
