SRI Corp Sends first team to Nigeria

This Summer, SRI Corp in partnership with Relief Network Ministries, Inc. will send it's first team members to the country of Nigeria in Africa. The team will focus on helping the rural community of Ogberuru in Orlu - Imo State to get clean drinking water.

The project will require sinking one or more water wells with some pump installations.  Ogberuru has a population of about 10,000 people in 12 large hamlets or clans. The primary occupation is farming, palm wine taping, and petite trading.  Women and children suffer the most since they are required to walk approximately 1.5 miles one way down the stream to fetch water. Each individual adult will usually carry no more than 5 gallons for the distance. For children, they may be able to collect just 2 gallons depending on age and strength. The source of this surface water is often very contaminated for those not leaving very near the spring source.

In collaboration with some Canadian water experts, Relief Network Ministries will attempt to solve this difficult problem of water shortage for Ogberuru in Nigeria in the very near future. The project is expected to last for 3-5 years depending on funding levels.
